Free Inquiry #1- How Does Classroom Environments Influence Learning

How Does Classroom Environments Influence Learning

For my Free Inquiry project this semester, I will be exploring how classroom environments influence learning. Looking at how lighting, desk arrangement, and other issues might influence students’ learning. When designing a classroom space, you have to consider how students will feel when entering it. In the video below, the teacher states that she has a defuser with a nice scent, so the room smells nice with its signature scent. But also having it organized and not messy and a disaster.

Weekly, going through what influences a positive learning environment for students with examples of classrooms in the district, college, and in Grand Forks. comparing these classrooms to understand what can be improved to make students want to feel safe and comfortable with attending school.

Week 7- Summary of the Weeks

When creating your classroom environment, it can play a major role in shaping how students learn, engage, and perform academically. It can affect not just academic achievement, but also motivation, behaviour, and overall well-being of your students.

The classroom is where it shapes how students feel about learning, with the classroom it isn’t just a physical space. It’s an emotional and social world where students spend a huge part of their lives. When students feel safe, supported, and respected, they’re more willing to participate, ask questions, and take risks in their learning. When the environment feels tense, judgmental, or chaotic, it can make students feel anxious or withdrawn, which can lower motivation and confidence. A positive classroom environment helps students develop a love for learning, not just a fear of grades or mistakes.
