Artist Statement- Wire Sculpture
- What steps did you take to create your artwork?
The first step was choosing the materials that I needed to create this wire sculpture such as the type of wood, beads and wire size. I decided to do a pink and wood theme for my beads and decided to do a round dowel instead of a block of wood. I also decided to add in my last name with letter beads.
- What challenges did you face? How did you work through them?
The challenges I faced when doing this project was figuring out how to balance the wire on the base. How I worked through this challenge was by bending the wire into different shapes to make it somewhat even on both sides so it can balance.
- What do you like/dislike about your work? Why?
What i liked most about this project was that i could customize it to ever how i wanted. I also liked how I had a say in what I did to make it personal to me.
What I did not like about this project was how challenging it was to figure out how to balance the wire on the base and how hard it was to maneuver the wire into the shape I wanted. But once I figured it out I actually found it therapeutic watching the wire balancing on the base without falling.
- What did you title your artwork? Why?
I titled this project the “wire sculpture of balance” . This is because the wire looks like it would be too heavy to balance but it works and it is fascinating to see how it does.
- What did you learn by creating this artwork?
I learned that having two sides that aren’t equal doesn’t mean they can’t balance because they find a way to make it work.
- If you could do it again, would you change anything? What and why?
Yes, i would make it so everyone had a round piece of wood instead of a block because i
Found that the blocks didn’t work with the movement compared with the round.
