Photographic Series

To create this art piece, I went through all the photos I already had and selected images that represented different parts of my life. At first, I tried to choose only three photos under different contexts, but I found it difficult because there were many images that felt meaningful to me. Instead, I ended up creating four different photographic series, each with its own meaning. One challenge I faced was narrowing my choices down to just three photos that represented who I am, because I see myself as someone who is complex and sometimes chaotic. To work through this, I organized my photos into four categories: milestones that led to important outcomes in my life, the people I love, the evolution of who I am today, and my love for the animals I have had in the past and present. What I liked most about my work was that I was able to use photos I had already taken rather than going out to capture new ones, and that I was able to create multiple photo series instead of just one. However, at first I disliked thinking I was only allowed to create one series, because it didn’t feel like enough to represent who I am. Through this project, I realized that many different experiences and people have shaped the person I have become. I titled my artwork The Photo Series That Makes Me because each set of images represents a different part of my identity. By creating this artwork, I learned that I can be indecisive and that there are many aspects that make up who I am as a person. If I were to do this project again, I would likely keep the outcome the same, because until I reach another major accomplishment in my life, it would still be difficult for me to narrow my story down to only three photos.
