Monochromatic Atmospheric Perspective Painting

Colour & Value
When I reflect on my use of colour in this piece, I feel that I was successful in creating a cohesive and visually pleasing palette. The colours come together well in the final outcome, and I think they help establish the overall mood of the painting. I especially notice that the way the colours blend gives the piece a strong sense of unity. However, I also recognize that there is room for growth in how my darker colours relate to the rest of the painting. In some areas, they do not connect as smoothly with the surrounding tones as I would like. Moving forward, I want to focus on making my colour transitions more intentional so that the relationship between light and dark feels more balanced and refined.
Composition & Depth
Looking at my composition, I am proud of how I was able to create a sense of depth through layering. The different sections of the painting are clearly visible, and I think this helps guide the viewer’s eye throughout the piece. I can see how each layer contributes to the overall structure, which is something I was aiming to achieve. At the same time, I think I could improve how I emphasize my focal point. The river and the sun are meant to stand out, but I feel they could have been more effective if I had used slightly different shades of pink to distinguish them from the surrounding areas. In future work, I want to be more deliberate in how I use colour and contrast to draw attention to key elements.
Acrylic Technique
In terms of my acrylic technique, I can see both strengths and areas that need improvement. I am happy with how the lightest and darkest colours turned out, as they appear more bold and confidently applied. These areas feel stronger and more impactful within the painting. However, I also notice that there are spots where the paint was not applied thickly enough, which affects the consistency of the surface. Additionally, some of my lines are not as crisp as I had intended, which takes away from the overall precision of the piece. Moving forward, I want to focus on applying paint more evenly and taking more care with my edges so that my work looks more polished and intentional.
